The Process
- Parents are invited to come in for an initial consultation, without obligation. We will discuss your concerns and how I might help.
- Should you decide to proceed, I next meet with your son or daughter. Most interviews last about two hours.
- The student returns for a further in-depth session, during which we discuss factors affecting his application, issues he should think about when looking at colleges, and a carefully selected list of colleges.
- You receive a written report summarizing our discussions. The report includes details about the college list, recommendations for taking the appropriate standardized tests, a discussion of financial aid, and a timetable for the application process.
- Mock interviews are held to prepare the student for meetings with admissions officers and alumni representatives.
- Work begins on application essays. The student returns as often as necessary to discuss drafts and revisions.
- As deadlines approach, I guide the student in asking teachers for recommendations, deciding whether to release test scores, and filling out application forms. During the fall of senior year, it is not unusual for us to meet weekly.
- Throughout the process, parents are encouraged to call with questions and comments at any time.
